What defines a good host?

Organizing an artist-in-residence takes a lot of effort and skills and the major test is how to actually host that artist for whom you've been busy creating an atmosphere, booking flights/trains, arranging apartments etc. What actually makes you a good host once the artist arrives? With some artists it might be easy, they are independent and do not need much support, they just contact you every now and then with a request for help, but some do require more attention, meaning your role can change from residency host to a city guide, working partner, personal assistant, translator, cook, cleaner, friend... and sometimes that is only the beginning of a long relationship traversing geographical locations and time zones. During this workshop, we will focus on exactly that - what makes one a good host, who connects, experiments, grows and learns together with the visiting artists.
